CONNAK Foundation has embarked on one week free medical outreach in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
No fewer than 3000 patients received free medical attention during the outreach according to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the Foundation, Mrs Carol Emeka-Sunday.
The CEO, however, decried the festering insecurity in the South-East which she said, had been a major impediment to foreign medical missions to South-East.
She challenged Government and security agencies to rise to the occasion, regretting that some foreign medical experts who had wanted to participate in the outreach could not due to insecurity.
She said that 32 medical personnel from the United States of America plus 44 locally recruited health experts featured at the outreach.
Mrs Emeka-Sunday also said that the outreach was jointly executed with FaithCare Foundation, an international non-governmental organisation that is into healthcare missions.
She said that 177 surgeries including fibroids, goiters, hernia, among other ailments were conducted during the outreach.
According to her over 1,016 eye patients and 195 dental cases were among the over 3000 beneficiaries from the outreach.
She disclosed delight that a pregnant woman who could not pay for a cesarean section was delivered of her baby through CS during the outreach.
The cost of the CS was borne by the Foundation, she added.
She added that no fewer than 433 persons got born again while 289 re-dedicated their lives to Christ during evangelism sessions of the exercise which also featured distribution of free bibles.
She also said said that wheelchairs, clutches blood pressure monitoring kits were also distributed during the outreach.
The Foundation donated the medical equipment used during the outreach including a brand new 150kva generating set to the Madonna Hospital.
She thanked the management of FaithCare Foundation for making this year’s outreach thicker, declaring that the gesture was borne out of the passion of the owner of the Foundation to impact lives.
The CEO who dismissed any political undertone for the gestures pledged to sustain the services, adding that more people will benefit from their empowerment packages.
