The University town of Nsukka has been hit by acute water scarcity following alleged disconnection of supply of water from the borehole along university road by the leadership of Nsukka Local Government Council.
The reason behind the disconnection was not immediately known but Ikengaonline investigation revealed that the action of the council leadership was not unconnected with the 2023 election.
A source told our correspondent that following the aftermath of the election which favoured the opposition Labour Party in the council, the leadership of the council has not been happy.
According to the source who lives close to the LGA secretariat, the leadership of the council had allegedly threatened that as those people who get water from the borehole did not vote the PDP in the last election, they would continue to suffer water scarcity till the end of PDP’s administration in the local government.
The current situation has made it difficult for residents of the area and those coming from outside the area to experience difficulty in getting clean water.
“Currently, people living along the university road have been having problems getting water for their domestic use and to carryout other activities,” he said.
Efforts to reach the leadership of the council was unsuccessful.
