Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Barr Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, has emerged as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra State.

Mr. Obiokoye emerged after being unanimously elected to the position during the party’s 2023 State Congress.

The Congress held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, the state capital, on Tuesday.

At the state congress, 15 other candidates to the position took the decision to step down for the new chairman.

Ikengaonline reports that eight aspirants had concluded arrangements to step down for the winner even before the congress started proper. They spoke openly, announcing their decision to step down for Obi-okoye, which was endorsed by the delegates for the election.

Other officers that emerged alongside Obi-okoye include; State Deputy Chairman – Mr. Paul Uzor, State Vice Chairman South – Surplus Ezewuzie, State Vice Chairman North – Odinaka Azubuike Ozoechina, State Vice Chairman Central – Chief Nduka Ubi Okoye, State Secretary – Levi Obiadu, Asst. State Secretary – Ekene Nnadinma, State Treasurer – Mrs Veronica Uche Nweke, State Asst. Treasurer – Mr Uche Maduekwe, State Financial Secretary – Josephson Okezie, Asst. Financial Secretary – Nnamdi Ifejika, Publicity Secretary – Mofunanya Ikechukwu Peter and Asst. Publicity Secretary – Nze Ikechukwu Okoye.

Addressing Journalists shortly after being sworn-in, the newly elected State Chairman of the party, Obi-okoye, pledged his commitment to discharge his duties effectively and ensure the party remains in harmony, growing from strength to strength.

He thanked the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process and urged his co-aspirants to join hands in moving the party forward.

In their separate reactions, the elected Deputy Chairman of the party, Anambra North, Chief Paul Uzoh, Vice Chairman, Anambra South, Surplus Ikem, and a Chieftain of the party, Hon. Mark Okoye, while commending the orderliness of party supporters during the exercise, said other aspirants stepped down for Obi-Okoye, for the sake of interest, peace and good governance of the party in the state.

They promised to work with the newly elected Chairman to ensure a landslide victory for Governor Soludo’s second term in office come the 2025 governorship election in the state.
