In fulfillment of what he had referred to as his lifelong ambition, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn in President of the Federal Republic Nigeria as Muhammadu Buhari exited after eight years as President. This followed the swearing-in of Kashim Shettima as Vice President.
The Oath of Office was administered by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, on Monday.
The former governor of Lagos State was declared the winner of the February 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes, according to results announced by INEC.
Meanwhile, both Atiku and Obi are challenging Tinubu’s victory at the presidential election tribunal.
The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed Atiku and the PDP’s suit seeking to stop the swearing-in of Tinubu thus paving the way for his inauguration as the the 16th President of Nigeria.
