No fewer than 988 personnel have been deployed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the Eid-El-Kabir 2023 Special Patrol Operation in Enugu State.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, Mr Joseph Toby, told newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu that the command had already deployed 18 vehicles and two motorbikes for the operation.
According to Toby, the command has deployed 770 officers and regular marshals as well as 218 special marshals who are volunteers as well.
He said that the command had started providing 24 hours services, which include ambulance and health service, search-and-rescue service and traffic control among others.
The commander said that the command was expecting a heavy duty truck from the national headquarters, Abuja.
“We have already kicked off the operation yesterday, Monday, June 26, and will terminate on Saturday, July 1; and stationed all our vehicles appropriately.
“The operation is organised to ensure that all road users obey traffic regulation to engender safety and efficient travel time,” he said.
Toby noted that the special operation would ensure reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs), Road Traffic Fatalities (RTFs) and Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs).
He said that the personnel would also give prompt response to road traffic crash victims as well as engagement in robust public education and enlightenment.
“We are going to engage in speedy removal of obstructions from the highways and stop overloading of articulated vehicles with goods, animals and human beings,” he said.
Toby advised motorists to avoid night travel, dangerous driving and overtaking on the highway, adding that “motorists should be cautious and apply control speed.”
“Motorists should maintain road and lane discipline always in order to accommodate other road users and ensure safety.
“Motorists should not use phones while driving as well as do not drink and drive notwithstanding the festive mood,” he added.
