Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has again threatened to surcharge any worker on the payroll of the State Government that fails to report to work on Mondays over unauthorised sit-at-home order.
Mbah made the threat in a release issued at the weekend in Enugu and signed by the State Head of Service (HoS) Mr Ken Ugwu.
In the statement, the Head of Service directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to open an attendance register and ensure that all workers report to work at the normal time to clock in.
He said the directive followed an earlier circular dated July 3 prohibiting sit-at-home in Enugu State.
Therefore, “all heads of MDAs are expected to submit their attendance register containing names of officers, who have clocked in to this office before 10:am every Monday.
“Also, names of those who failed to come to work on Mondays must be submitted alongside the attendance register.”
The statement further said that all the workers who failed in this regard would be surcharged accordingly.
The HoS charged all heads of MDAs to “regard this directive as important assignment and ensure total compliance.”
It would be recalled that Mbah had continued the battle to end sit-at-home in Enugu with little or no success as residents have continued to sit indoors every Monday for fear of the unknown.
