The Police Command in Enugu State has said operatives of the command were on the trail of the hoodlums who attacked the Isi-Uzo Divisional Police Station, Ikem in Enugu State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed this in a statement issued in Enugu.
He said that those who carried out the attack were suspected to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, demanding the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Ndukwe said the attack which occurred at about 4:30 am on Tuesday was repelled by operatives of the command.
“Police Operatives of the Command are on the trail of armed hoodlums, suspected to be members of the outlawed IPOB/ESN group, who in their number on18/07/2023, at about 4.30am, attempted to attack Isi-Uzo Police Division of the Command, but were repelled by Police Operatives on duty.
“Many of the miscreants escaped with gunshot wounds, while one of the Operatives who sustained gunshot wound is receiving treatment and in stable condition.
“Further development shall be communicated, please, ” Ndukwe said.
It would be recalled that some unidentified gunmen attacked the Isi Uzi Divisional Police Station and allegedly carted away some arms and ammunition in the process.
A reliable source said the hoodlums were shouting “release Nnamdi Kanu or no peace.”
