A yet to be identified young man, Thursday night was found dead at the transformer near the Government Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State.
An eyewitness at the school who did not want to his name mentioned told newsmen that the man’s body had been burnt beyond recognition.
According to him, the dead man was suspected to have engaged in trying to steal cables and vandalise the transformer but luck ran out of him as there was sudden restoration of public power and he was electrocuted.
The school Principal, Mr. Chukwujindu Anyikwa, said he had reported the incident to various appropriate authorities.
“I have informed the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) in the state; Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), who later visited the scene of the incident; among others for necessary actions to be taken on the matter, especially as regards to the lifeless body of the suspect,” he said.
It was learned that the transformer was donated by the old boys association of the school.
As at the time of filing this report, the charred body of the vandal was yet to be evacuated.
