The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, in Ebonyi State, joined their counterparts across the country in the protest against subsidy removal on Wednesday.
They were led by the Chairman of NLC, Ogugua Egwu and TUC Chairman, Chidi Igboji.
The workers marched round the capital city of Abakaliki carrying placards and banners of various sizes with different inscriptions.
They had converged at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki as early as 7am from where they took off after they were addressed by Mr Ogugua.
Security agencies especially the police were on hand to provide security to the protesters and ensure the exercise was peaceful and hitch free.
At Udensi roundabout near Old Government House, they made a brief stop where the TUC Chairman, Mr Igboji and immediate past NLC Chairman, Ikechukwu Nwafor, addressed them.
Mr Igboji accused the Federal Government of anti-poor policies.
He said the Federal Government must reduce salaries of public office holders and cut down cost of governance.
Mr Egwu called for an increase in workers’ salary arguing that the subsidy removal which has led to inflation has rendered their salary almost meaningless.
Mr Nwafor called for re-activation of the country’s refineries arguing that the country should have no business importing petroleum products.
