Worried by the devastating effects of the protracted sit-at-home on the economy of South-East, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has launched a policy tagged “Economic Empowerment Day (EED).”
This was contained in a press statement issued Saturday by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.
According to the statement, the policy is aimed at reversing the economic decline of the South-East zone and launching the zone into a leading economic hub in Africa.
The statement said that IPOB Leader was worried that South-East economy had suffered a major setback following the sit-at-home that has persisted since August 2021 despite several efforts to stop it.
Kanu, therefore, according to the statement, directed his followers to dedicate Mondays to economic empowerment in the South-East.
According to the statement, EED will focus on improving educational and social conditions, which have been negatively impacted by the prolonged sit-at-home periods.
Kanu urged Biafra agitators not to worsen the already precarious economic situation of the people of South-East.
The statement read in part: “The Economic Empowerment Day is a day for mass mobilisation of Biafrans to devote their resources and means towards reversing the sharp decline in our economic, educational, and social needs.
“During this exercise, Biafrans are encouraged to embark on a massive deployment of their resources for the empowerment of the educationally disadvantaged and poverty-ridden population of our people.”
The statement further explained that “the EED initiative aims to help the Eastern region thrive and grow through education, employment, health services, and fostering a sense of identity and community.”
Kanu urged Ndigbo not to ruin their global reputation of ingenuity and resilience.
“Through the Economic Empowerment Day, our people and indeed, the Eastern region can begin to thrive and grow.
“It is time to rebuild our once-envied Eastern region – peaceful, accommodating, resilient, illustrious, and great – and reclaim our glory among nations.”
