The Police Command in Enugu State says it has launched a manhunt for kidnappers operating along Ugwuogo-Opi-Ekwuegbe/Ugwuogo Neke-Ikem routes in the state.
It would be recalled that two persons including a community leader in Neke, Isi Uzo Local Government Area, were reportedly killed on Friday and scores of passengers and motorists abducted on Ugwuogo Neke-Ikem road
Ikengaonline also reports that there have been several incidents of kidnapping along the Ugwuogo-Ekwegbe-Opi road.
However, in a statement signed DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s PPRO and made available to Journalists in Enugu, the command said its operatives were combing the area to fish out the perpetrators.
“Manhunt operation is underway to apprehend the armed assailants that shot and murdered one male victim and the driver of a Passat car, identified as Chief Cyril Mbah.
“This incident happened on August 11 at about 7:45 p.m., along Ugwogo-Neke/Ikem axis of Enugu-Opi-Nsukka Road,” he said.
Mr Ndukwe, however, said that the command was not in receipt of any report of abduction or kidnapping of person (s) on the same road as being reported by some online media.
