Abia varsity VC warns against exploitation of students

The Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University Uturu, ABSU) Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, has warned against any form of exploitation or molestation of students by the university staff, declaring that the Management has zero tolerance for such illegality.
Professor Ogbulu who made the declaration at the 41st Matriculation ceremony of the university, urged students not to hesitate from reporting any case of exploitation directly to his office for swift action.
He, however, warmed students against cultism, hard drugs, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and other vices.
The VC threatened that any student engaging in any of the vices would be expelled from the institution.
He also warned students against demarketing the institution through spreading false information on the social media.
The VC charged the new students to pursue their academic career with diligence and determination to reciprocate their parents’ sacrifices.
Professor Ogbulu who said the Institution under his watch was committed towards quality training of students, urged them to be law-abiding.
The VC advised parents against forcing their children into course of study they have no interest in, stressing that every course is important.
” We promise to give your child the best education that will help them become better and prosperous in their chosen career so as to look after you in the future”, he added.
He commended the Visitor to the university, Gov. Alex Otti, for his numerous interventions since assumption of office in critical arrears of support “that have enabled the university navigate the present rough terrains of education in Nigeria”.
The VC expressed optimism that the institution would soon witness rapid transformation under the watch of Gov. Otti.
Ikengaonline reports that a total of 4,546 students comprising 4,404 regular students, 100 Institute for Continuing Education (ICE); and 42 Postgraduates, were enrolled in the various programmes of the institution.
