The Majority Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikoro Kingsley, has sued for peace among communities in his Afikpo North West constituency.
He stated this during the 2023 New Yam Festival ceremony held by communities in his constituency.
This is as he flagged off a bi-annual empowerment programme for businesses and farmers in his constituency with cash and farm inputs distribution worth millions of naira.
The event held at the weekend in Ibii/Oziza, Akpoha and Amasiri communities with large turnouts of people.
Akpoha and Amasiri communities few months ago were enmeshed in boundary disputes with government and security agencies stepping in to maintain peace.
Addressing the people, Mr Ikoro noted that the communities are brothers who have lived in peace for years and urged them to maintain the peace.
He pointed out that it is only in an atmosphere of peace that the communities would continue to develop and benefit from developmental policies of the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration.
“Don’t let enemies or a few bad eggs lead you into fighting with your neighbouring communities. Instead of fighting report to relevant local and state government authorities to settle any issues or complaints you may have.”
“The Government of Francis Nwifuru has a lot in stock for every community. He has asked every community to nominate one road for construction in their area. He has also promised to build befitting palaces for our traditional rulers.
“But if your community is in crisis, how will government come in and provide these dividends of democracy,” he queried.
Mr Ikoro dolled out millions of naira to support 26 small and medium scale businesses across his constituency.
He said the programme would be a continuous one and would be done every six months as a way of improving the lives of rural dwellers and creating employment.
He also donated bags of fertilisers to all the wards in his constituency, to aid farmers achieve bountiful harvest.
The lawmaker also donated N500,000 to support the annual football competition in his Oziza community.
