Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has announced reduction of fine payable by traffic offenders to five thousand Naira.
Ikengaonline learnt that the new rate took effect on Tuesday. But before the pronouncement, offenders in state were fined up to N50,000.
The Governor made the announcement during his quarterly chat with Ndi Anambra on Anambra Broadcasting Service, Awka on Monday.
Responding to issues regarding the activities of Anambra State Road Traffic Agency, the Governor explained that the agency is designed for law and order on Anambra roads.
He said that the five thousand naira fine will ease the challenges people face pending when all the roads are completely marked to enable road users know exactly what is obtainable and the punishment involved.
He noted that the official amount for each offense will be made public at that time and the payment system as well, to avoid unlawful extortion of motorists and warned against paying cash to anyone.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Anambra Internal Revenue Services, Dr Greg Ezeilo, stated that Governor Soludo has sacked two revenue officials who allegedly molested motorists.
He said, “the two staff members that molested the motorists have been dismissed from the establishment because of the show of overzealousness and conduct that is against the image and reputation of the Anambra State Government.
“We have also had a similar situation where a shuttle bus driver experienced the same treatment and we had to come and take necessary actions because the administration of Gov Charles Soludo has zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour.”
Following the sack, termination fever has gripped officials of the Anambra Internal Revenue Services (AIRS) as more heads may roll.
