Police operatives in Anambra State have smashed a kidnap gang in Nnewichi, a town in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
A statement signed by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra Police Command, said the anti kidnap squad of the Police was on patrol Wednesday with vigilante men when it got information about the kidnappers’ hideout and stormed the place.
According to Ikenga, a kidnapped victim found in the hideout was rescued and conveyed to a hospital at Nnewi for treatment.
He equally said that the suspected kidnappers were arrested, while one pump action gun and two locally fabricated hand grenades at the hideout were recovered by the operatives.
Ikengaonline reports that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, while commending the efforts of the the Police and local vigilante, noted that the collaboration has been effective against criminal elements in the state.
He urged them to sustain the onslaught until crime is reduced to the barest minimum and people can move around safely.
