The Imo State Police Command, has vowed to fish out the killers of security operatives at Ehime Mbano on Monday.
Ikengaonline had reported that eight security operatives were ambushed and killed by yet-to-be-identified attackers who later set their patrol vans ablaze.
The Police in a statement Wednesday, vowed that those behind the dastardly must be apprehended and prosecuted.
Police disclosed that the ambushed Joint Security Task-force, JTF, personnel were on their way to respond to a decoy distress call when the incident occurred.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Henry Okoye, anyone involved in the heinous crime must be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The JTF team comprising two officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, one personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, one Police officer and an Air Force Officer were lured to an ambush and burnt to death alongside their two Hilux patrol vehicles,” the statement said.
It said that the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Mohammed Barde, had deployed a Special Tactical Team and operational assets to apprehend the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act.
The statement further said that the Commissioner of Police had extended his heart-felt condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased officers, “and prays the Almighty God to grant them the fortitude to bear the sudden and irreplaceable loss.”
It further read: “CP Barde, assures the general public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The statement reiterated the Command’s commitment in collaborating with other sister security agencies in providing adequate security in Imo State.
