The Chairman of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (DRC), Chuks Ezewuzie, has said that Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to creating a prosperous and accessible environment for people with disabilities in the state.
Ezewuzie, a lawyer, stated this when he delivered cane guards to visually impaired individuals who gathered at St. Patrick Cathedral Hall, Awka, to celebrate 2023 White Cane Awareness Day.
White Cane Awareness Day is observed on October 15th, every year, to raise awareness about the importance of the white cane as a symbol of independence and mobility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Speaking at the event, the DRC Boss thanked the governor for budgeting funds for this year’s celebration. He also acknowledged the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for celebrating the event with the state’s blind community.
He said the event not only helps to advocate for the rights and inclusion of the blind but also promotes understanding and respect for individuals who use white canes for navigation in the society.
