The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State chapter has commended the state’s First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo, for her plans towards the establishment of special screening and interview facilities for Persons with Disabilities in Anambra State.
Mrs Soludo unveiled the plan during the 2023 White Cane Safety Day celebration in Awka, the State capital.
The First Lady who is the founder of ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo,’ disclosed that the establishment of dedicated examination and interview centres will cater for PWDs seeking roles in the state’s civil service.
Reacting to this in a statement, Anambra State JONAPWD Chairman, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, said the initiative will reduce the stress and challenges that persons with disabilities face while seeking job opportunities in the state.
He commended the First Lady for her faith in the abilities and potentials of persons with disabilities, and stressed that her effort to listen to their experiences, and stories and bring attention to their concerns that are often overlooked by society was a source of joy to them.
The statement read: “The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State chapter, would like to express our gratitude for the unwavering commitment of Her Excellency, Mrs. Nonye Soludo – the wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State – towards addressing the plights of persons with disabilities and continuously raising awareness about their struggles.
“During the International White Cane Safety Day celebration on October 14, 2023, at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Hall, Awka, Her Excellency advocated for the creation of inclusive examination and support centers during job recruitment processes in the state. This initiative aimed to reduce the stress and challenges that persons with disabilities face while seeking job opportunities.
“We were inspired by your dedication to improving the lives of persons with disabilities and your unwavering faith in their abilities and potential, as you expressed at the event. Your effort will never go unnoticed.
“We appreciate that you took the time to listen to our experiences, share our stories, and bring attention to our concerns, which society often overlooks. Your demonstration of empathy, compassion, and understanding shows that you are willing to go above and beyond to make a difference in our lives.
“Thank you for your devotion to being the eyes and guide to the Blind, ears to the Deaf, and legs and hands to those with Physical Disabilities in the state. Your Healthy Living Crusade is changing lives and making a significant impact on those who’ve crossed your path, especially those with disabilities.
“Please keep up the excellent work, and know that your contributions are valued and appreciated. Thank you, and God bless you for working with our dear Governor to promote an inclusive, livable, and prosperous Anambra, our dream state.”
