The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has urged Imo residents to defend their votes, and make sure the wishes of the people are reflected in the forthcoming November 11 governorship election in the state.
Mr. Obi stated this at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Complex in Owerri alongside the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, and Imo LP guber candidate, Sen. Athan Achonu.
He bemoaned the current hardship, inflation and insecurity in the country, noting that Nigerians and Imo residents deserve better governance.
The former governor of Anambra State said the President Bola Tinubu administration had done very little to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian masses, and urged the people of the state to vote for the LP candidate and protect their votes.
Obi assured that Imo State would be repositioned under Senator Athan Achonu’s administration.
“You are expected to stay awake. Cast and protect your votes in the upcoming election,” Obi said.
Also speaking, the Abia State Governor, Mr. Otti, enlightened the people on the need to defend their votes at the polling units and appealed to them to not only cast their votes but also protect them.
Speaking in Igbo, Achonu stated that, among other things, if elected governor, he would address insecurity, create jobs for the unemployed, and promote local government autonomy.
