Again, the family of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, accused the Department of State Services, DSS, of denying the pro-Biafra movement leader access to his visitors.
The family who spoke through Prince Emmanuel Kanu, after a botched attempt Thursday to visit the IPOB Leader, alleged that the action of the secret police, was a ploy to hide from the public, the current state of Kanu’s deteriorating health.
He accused DSS of flagrantly violating court orders that said Kanu should be allowed unfettered access to his family and lawyers twice a week.
“DSS is stopping my brother’s visitors from seeing him, which is another flagrant disregard of a subsisting court order and their effort to conceal my brother’s deteriorating health condition.
“For me, DSS has become a private security company where the authority manages same as their personal family business. I’m yet to know why my brother is still currently in detention against court orders.”
Recall that Kanu has remained in a solitary confinement at the Abuja headquarters of the DSS since his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in June 2021 following his abduction in Kenya, East Africa.
Kanu, a British citizen, was residing in the United Kingdom before his trip to Kenya with his UK passport when he was abducted by armed men suspected to be security operatives.
But Kenya has since denied any involvements in his arrest.
Abuja Court of Appeal ordered that Kanu’s arrest and rendition did not follow any international protocols, and ordered that he be released immediately, and never arraigned in any Nigerian court for the charges for which he was standing trial.
Despite the orders, however, the Federal Government has refused to free him.
