No fewer than four persons were crushed to death on Tuesday in Aba, Abia State, when a 40-feet container fell on their vehicles.
Many other passengers were severely injured, and have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
The tragic incident incident occured at the ever-busy Ikot Ekpene Road Ogbor Hill Aba.
According to an eye witness, the trailer which was coming from the Akwa Ibom end of the bridge, was descending the hill when it suddenly had a break failure.
The trailer collided with a stationary vehicle that broke down on top of the Aba River bridge.
The impact of the collision, according to the eyewitness made the container fall off and landed on two vehicles at the scene.
Four occupants of the trapped vehicles died at the spot while others were observed yelling for help.
One of the victims was seen buried by the container as his two legs were motionless while his head was stucked under the container.
Rescue workers and security agents who rushed to the scene, had hectic day trying to salvage the situation and restore traffic flow.
The scene has been notorious for road crashes as a similar accident that occured about two years ago claimed some lives in the nearby Ahia Udele market.
Following incessant accidents on the road, Abia State Government relocated the market to decongest the area but the deplorable condition of the Ikot Ekpene Road has been a major factor.
