Master Chimamanda Onoh from Central School Obioma in Udi Local Government Area on Thursday emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Nigeria Computer Society Junior Whizkid Competition in Enugu.
Onoh beat other five contestants to emerge the winner with the score of 214 (71 per cent)at the competition that took place at the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) hall.
Miss Ozochi Chidiogo of central School Aguobu-Owa,Ezeagu LGA, took second position with the score of 186 (62 per cent) while Agu Miracle from Community Primary School Isienu Amagunze, Nkanu East LGA won the third position with the score of 143 (48 per cent).
In his opening speech, the chairman Enugu State Universal Basic Education Baord (ENSUBEB) Dr. GOC Ajah appreciated NCS and the teachers for thier tireless work in the upbringing of the pupils.
Ajah who was represented by the Permanent Member 3 ENSUBEB in charge of school services, Mrs Nwakaego Aja, told the pupils to embrace computer technology to be acquainted with the world current trend.
She said that Enugu Government is an advocate of Smart Schools to be centered on basic education and urged pupils to key into the government’s computer projects available in thier Local Governments, Councils and Wards.
The chairman Junior Whizkid Committee Dr. Dadson Nwakalor, said the association has been organising quiz competitions for years but not this kind.
“Today competition is digital and it is the first of it’s kind organised by NCS South-East and by next year it will be organised in all the states of the federation.
“I know that other states will emulate Enugu State after this programme as the state has been the leader in everything and will continue to be,” he said.
Mrs Nneka Agu, the secretary to NCS South-East Junior Whizkid Competition, welcome all the participants and wished them all the best.
Agu who spoke on behalf of the sponsors said, “on behalf Sen. Osita Ngwu who represents Enugu West Senatorial Zone in the senate, I welcome you all and wish you the best.
“I believe you will be a receiver of one of the Kids Education tablets donated by Sen. Ngwu and wish your performance will spur him to do more.”
In his appreciation, the winner Onoh thanked the organisers and said that he is filled with joy for winning the competition.
Meanwhile, Sen. Ngwu earlier before the programme, presented three Kids Education tablets to NCS at his Constituency office in Nnobi street Independence layout, Enugu.
The presentation was made by his Chief of Staff, Mr Emeka Aneke, who noted that the Senator was unavoidable absence due to senatorial engagement in Abuja.
He encouraged NCS to continue the good work and that the constituency will always support educational initiative or projects for pupils in the state.
Ikengaonline reports that the chairman Junior Whizkid Committee presented the tablets to Mrs Aja for the ENSUBEB chairman before the competition began.
