Hope beams for Persons With Disabilities, PWDs, in Abia State, as the State Government, has commenced their registration with a view to determining their number and improving their welfare.
Wife of the State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, who spoke during the flag off of the capturing exercise in Umuahia, explained that her husband has plans to enhance the welfare of all PWDs in the state.
According to her, the aim of the capturing is to have accurate data of the special group in the state and, plan for their welfare.
The Abia First Lady also distributed bags of rice, groundnut oil and other food items to over 2,000 PWDs in the state.
“The capturing is also a way to interact with persons with disabilities in other to know their plight and how the government can solve their problems.
“This is the beginning of good things to come to PWDs in Abia State, because we will use the data captured to include them in the scheme of things at the federal level.”
Earlier in his remark, Special Assistant to the Governor on PWDs, Hon. David Anyaele, commended the Governor’s wife for her concerns over the wellbeing of PWDs in the state.
He also commended Gov Alex Otti for giving attention to the plights of PWDs, while urging PWDs not to despair anymore as the state has them in mind.
