Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged Nigerians to pray for peace and social cohesion in the country.
The governor made the call in his Easter Message at the weekend.
He also called for prayers for progress and healings for the country.
Nwifuru, who noted that the period calls for sober reflections called on Nigerians to emulate the life of Christ who leaved a life of sacrifice and selflessness.
He said his government will continue to work towards alleviating the hardship being faced by the people.
His statement reads: “On this special day of Easter, the Government and people of Ebonyi State join Christians all over the world in celebrating Easter—an event commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death.
“It marks the end of Lent, a period of sacrifice and contemplation of the wondrous works of God and it is a day of hope joy, renewal and rebirth.
“It commemorates Christ Resurrection, a constant reminder of God’s love and the promise of redemption for us all.
“As a season of deep contrition and sober reflections, we have reflected on all those who are suffering from violence and grief, social isolation, illness, poverty, deprivation and other hardships.
“As a responsive government, we keep propounding approaches towards getting our people out of every misery within the shortest possible time”
“And so today, we hold close to the Easter message that nothing – not even death – can match the power of faith, hope, and love.
“Therefore, I urge you to always remember the sacrifices of our Lord Jesus Christ and recommit yourselves to love God with all our hearts , embracing His call to treat one another with compassion.
“I urge you to use this period to pray for peace, social cohesion, progress and healings in all areas of our national life.
Happy Easter and may God bless and keep you all,” the statement added.
