Hausa communities in Onitsha and Awka cities in Anambra State have hailed Labour party presidential candidate in the last general election for his inclusive approach to leadership.
The leadership of the Muslim communities in both cities voiced their unwavering support and heartfelt prayers to Obi for his leadership role in Nigeria.
Obi was in Onitsha and Awka mosques to felicitate with Muslims for the Ramadan fast, where he donated cash and food items to them. At the event, he urged the Muslim to use the opportunity of the period to pray for unity and progress of Nigeria.
He was at the two mosques on Monday and Tuesday to partake in breaking of the Ramadan fast.
At the Central Mosque in Awka, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the South-East Zonal Chairman of Miyetti Allah, praised Mr. Obi for his consistent presence in areas where his support is needed all over the country.
He said: “Mr. Obi has been our friend from the time he was Governor of Anambra State till date. We have instances of his equal treatment, active participation in Ramadan fasts, sponsorship of pilgrims to holy land, and assistance in mosque renovations during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
“We are happy that Mr. Obi continues to extend his goodwill towards us, even long after his gubernatorial term ended. We have people here who were able to go for Hajj, courtesy of Obi, while he was governor.”
Similarly, Alhaji Garba Sarki, the leader of the Awka Muslim Community said he is not surprised that Obi visited Muslim communities in both Onitsha and Awka to break the Ramadan fast.
Sarki said Obi’s inclusive approach and dedication to connecting with people from all backgrounds exemplify the leadership qualities needed to revitalise Nigeria.
He said: “Nigeria would undergo a transformative process if people like Obi were to assume the presidency. We believe in Obi’s potential to bring about positive change and national progress.
“Obi recently honored his commitment to provide N1.5million for mosque maintenance and renovation. That money is still in our bank account. What you see we have done here is from our pocket.”
Obi who addressed them called on all Nigerians, regardless of their tribal or religious affiliations, to unite and advocate for effective leadership.
He elaborated on the detrimental impact of poor governance, emphasising that its repercussions extend to every citizen, regardless of their background.
“There is no preferential treatment based on tribe or religion, as everyone is equally affected by the consequences of inadequate leadership.
“We urge Nigerians to transcend divisive barriers and collectively demand accountability, transparency, and excellence in leadership to ensure the prosperity and well-being of the nation.”
