Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has issued a stern warning to cultists perpetrating crimes in Awka, Anambra State capital, to change from their evil ways.
The CP warned them “to beware that their days are numbered if they do not desist from cult-related crimes and activities in the state.”
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Wednesday.
The CP said security agents in the state would not fold their hands and watch them (cultists) destabilise the State in the name of cult rivalry leading to fatalities.
In the statement, the CP hailed the military, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, NIS, and the Vigilante in the state for their steadfastness in supporting the fight against criminality, confessing that the synergy is yielding fantastic results in keeping Anambra State safe.
Few days ago, a joint team of security forces busted insurgents’ camps during their raid of forests in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Ikenga, the Command PPRO, said the team recovered nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and four Walkie Talkies from the camps found during the operation.
He also said the security forces destroyed the insurgents’ camps during the operation that lasted for several hours, and explained that the operation was an extension of the manhunt for criminals attacking security formations in the State.
“Anambra State Joint Security Force on Friday, 5th April 20, extended its manhunt for criminals attacking security formations in the State to Ogbaru forest.
“Locations around Amiyi and Ochuche were combed for the insurgents. Troops of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy lent considerable firepower to the operation which completely routed the hoodlums from their hideouts in the forest.
“Several camps were found and destroyed during the operation which lasted several hours.
“Nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) recovered from the camps were safely defused by the Police Bomb Squad,” Ikenga said.
