Enugu State Government has restated its commitment to providing Electricity services to the citizens of the state.
Governor Peter Mbah gave this indication in Enugu during a Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting organised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
Mbah said that the government was currently studying underserved and unserved communities and will soon constitute the management of the newly established Enugu State Electrification Agency.
The governor further stated that Enugu State is poised to catalyse the economic growth of the South-East.
The governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, said the state was determined to ensure that the module in energy intervention as relates to electricity is replicated across the zone.
He maintained that his administration must ensure that customers were not charged for the power they did not consume.
While commending NERC for organising the event, the governor charged the regulatory body to endeavour to resolve most of the challenges faced by customers as complained by them.
He emphasised the importance of electricity in growing the state’s economy from 4.4 to 30 billion dollars as projected by his administration before 2031.
Mbah said the government has started engaging with developers and investors who are interested in setting up power generation plants under the willing buyer/willing seller commercial agreement.
He identified electricity as a product, hence should have cost implications, but reiterated that the state government will not condone any act of overcharge or extortion, even as he urged the body not to derail on the steady and quality power supply according to the band classifications.
