World Igbo Business Council, has called on the Federal Government, to as a matter of priority, establish an International University of local and foreign languages in Aba, the commercial capital of Abia State.
Former National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and the Spokesman of the group, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The university, he argued, would encourage growth of local and foreign businesses in the commercial city in particular and Nigeria in general.
According to the group, the study of foreign languages in the university “will greatly help our businessmen and women during their business trips abroad.”
The statement read in part: “Such foreign languages as French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, Arabic, Portuguese Amharic, Swahili and Spanish should be taught in the University to make transactions easy for our people who frequent these countries for business.”
The group also called on the Federal Government to dredge the Imo River to the Atlantic Ocean to make ocean going vessels land in Aba.
Similarly, the statement called for “serious activity” to start at the Isiala Ngwa Inland Port and the domestic export ware house in Umuahia.
The group which is organising Aba Investors and Industrialist Summit in conjunction with World Igbo Business Council, urged Ndigbo to begin to invest at home.
It commended Governor Alex Otti for his infrastructural strides in Abia State which have made the state a choice destination for investors.
The group also commended Geometrics Power Company for its efforts to boost power supply in Aba.
Hinting that reputable industrialists and investors had indicated interest in the forthcoming summit in Aba, the group expressed optimism that the outing would be a huge success.
