Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has signed an agreement with a German company to safeguard the state’s environment and introduce green energy.
The agreement which the governor explained is a Public Private Partnership PPP, to take care of the waste management in the state, contained the operating law and legal framework of the partnership.
Governor Uzodimma said the state House of Assembly in 2018 passed a law on Public Private Partnership Law No 11 to enable the government fund, operate and manage public assets for optimum value and utilisation of the society.
“The issue of the cost of keeping the environment clean has always been a headache for the government. Not having any technical know-how to sustain and enforce necessary regulations made it also very necessary that we should find a way to prudently manage the environment in a manner that not only brings in money from revenues, but we will also enjoy clean environment.”
The signing of the PPA was witnessed by the Commissioner for Environment and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state.
