Enugu State is set to host the maiden National Council on Sports technical conference scheduled from Monday May 20-22, 2024 in Enugu.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Enugu State, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu, disclosed this in a statement made available to Ikengaonline on Sunday in Enugu.
Ekweremadu thanked Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for approving to host the National Delegate Conference.
According to him: “Enugu State government and the good people of Enugu State welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, and participants to the 1st national council on sports delegate’ conference.”
He said that participants at the conference with the Theme ” Sports for National Unity and Socio- Economic Growth” will include Commissioners of Sports, Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Sports from the 36 States and FCT, as well as National Secretaries of Sports Federations and officials from Federal Ministry of Sports Development.
The commissioner pointed out that Enugu State had recorded successes by hosting Coal-City Half Marathon, and in enacting Enugu State Sports Development Fund Law designed to help raise fund for sports in the State.
He said that other landmark achievements by the state include: 1st Mixed Martial Arts Caged fight, and Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Boxing Championship.
“In addition the state has completed FIFA artificial Turf at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, which has made Enugu Rangers to stage a come back to the stadium.
“The hosting of this conference is yet another indication of the commitment of Enugu State Government to the development of sports in the state.
“We welcome all delegates and hope they will find time to savour the hospitality of the Coal City State,” Ekweremadu said.
