Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested most wanted robber and cultist terrorising people of Uruagu in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The Police also foiled a kidnap attempt in Aguata, rescuing an abducted victim and recovered his vehicle in the process.
Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement he released to Journalists on Thursday.
He said the suspect, Anichede Akachukwu, popularly known as ‘Star B,’ aged 18, during interrogation, confessed to be the leader of Vikings Secret Cult Confraternity and Armed Gang terrorising Ogbaru LGA and Asaba in Delta State.
“His arrest is following a tip-off of intelligence gathered as he was receiving treatment in their den from a bullet wound sustained in their encounter with Police Operatives in Asaba.
“The suspects have provided Police with information on their mode of Operations and names of other gang members which is already aiding the ongoing investigation,” Ikenga said.
He also said Police on Monday, in Okija, Ihiala, recovered a white Porsche Cayenne Jeep with Reg Nos: AGL 60 HJ Lagos suspected to be operational vehicle of the suspects operating in Ihiala.”
He said during a police search of the vehicle, operatives found a bag and discovered twenty-seven pieces of live 7.62m ammunition, three live cartridges, one-touch light, charms, and other incriminating items.”
Ikenga said Police on Wednesday further rescued an abducted kidnap victim, and recovered the victim’s sky blue Toyota Camry.
“The Officers responded swiftly when they got the report at about 4:30 pm on 22/5/2024 of the abduction along Umuchiana village, Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA. During the hot chase by the Police team, the criminals shoved the victim out of the vehicle at Ndike village in Orumba North LGA and drove off for escape.
“The Officers sustained the trail on the abductors and the criminals abandoned the vehicle along Umunze Road Orumba South LGA and ran into a nearby bush.”
Ikenga said operations are still ongoing for the possible arrest of the hoodlums, noting that the kidnap victim has been debriefed and reunited with his family.
He said the commissioner of Police has hailed the gallant performance displayed by the operatives and assured that the police and other security agencies will do everything within the law to ensure criminals are denied the opportunity to foment troubles and re-group anywhere in the State.
