Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Economic activities came to a halt on Thursday in parts of Enugu State as residents observed a sit-at-home in memory of Biafra falling heroes.
This is coming despite assurances from the State Government and security agencies of their safety.
Ikengaonline reports that shops, markets, and public and private offices were closed expect for very few civil servants, who obeyed the directive from Gov. Peter Mbah to report to work.
However, the situation did not stop the writing of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Mathematics examination in the state.
It would be recalled that fear had gripped parents and guardians whose wards were billed to write the examinations.
But even in the face of growing tension in the city, students were seen trekking to their exam centers to sit for their exams unmolested.
As at the time if filing this report there has been no reported incident of breach of peace in the state as a result of the sit-at-home.
