Ugo Nosiri, Owerri
In a bid to boost electricity supply in Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Madkour Group, a renowned energy equipment and solution provider based in Cairo, Egypt.
Addressing the audience at the Government House Owerri after the signing ceremony, the Governor said the move was part of his administration’s pursuit for the development of the State.
The Governor had already assented to a law on power generation for the State; and the law created Orashi Electricity Company Limited of Imo State.
The partnership between Orashi Electricity Company of Imo State and Madkour Group is expected to bolster the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity across the state.
According to Governor Uzodimma, the collaboration is a significant step towards achieving the state’s objective of providing reliable and efficient power supply to its citizens.
He noted that the deal is expected to address the immediate energy needs of the state while laying the foundation for long-term industrial growth and prosperity.
The Governor explained that the Federal Government is fully supporting the state in the establishment of the company and to find technical and financial partners.
He explained that the need for partners became necessary because the business of power generation, distribution and transmission is capital intensive and the state cannot carry it alone.
Governor Uzodimma expressed optimism that the partnership will yield tangible results by January next year, ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply for the citizens of Imo State.
Responding on behalf of the group, the President of MADKOUR Group, Dr Mustafa Madkour, thanked the Governor for accepting to engage them in the business.
He promised they would work hard in order to stabilise power supply in Imo State, and expressed gratitude to the state government for the trust.
