The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, Rev Fr Christian Anieke, has counseled graduating students of the university to show exemplary performance in their future endeavours.
Anieke made the call during the Thanksgiving Mass organised by the University for 2023/2024 graduating students of the university on Sunday.
The cleric urged the graduating students to detach themselves from material things as a way of imitating Christ.
On the thanksgiving, the vice chancellor said the university organised it to thank God for completing the academic year.
He said that the graduating students had finished their exams and what is remaining is their project defense, urging them not to take their academic year for granted.
“As Christ sent out his disciples, we are sending you out. Now that you finished your exam, it is not a sendoff but a sending out till your convocation.
“Between now and your convocation, the life you live in your family will show the stuff you are made of. How you behave in your family and interact with your siblings will define you.
“You must rely on God for successes in life and stay focused and you must preach acceptance and reconciliation and not be distracted by the world,” he said.
He charged them to always remember the symbol they were carrying and ensure they brought reconciliation in their families and the world.
“You must cast out the demon of ignorance in your country, cities and family with the knowledge you gained,” he advised them.
He expressed displeasure on how some parents do not want their children to suffer, stressing that parents should prepare them for challenges ahead.
