Professor Joseph Ikechebelu has made a surprising comeback to his former role as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
This was after he bowed to pressure to officially hand over to the latest Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, following his removal on Saturday.
The news of his return was disclosed by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Special Duties and Public Relations, during a press briefing on Monday.
The University’s Governing Council has since appointed Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor, with plans to fill the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) in the near future.
These changes come amidst a tumultuous period marked by a leadership crisis within the University, culminating in the directive for Ikechebelu to hand over to Umobi or face disciplinary measures.
Ikengaonline reports that Ikechebelu’s reinstatement signifies an effort by the University to restore stability in its governance and bring back a sense of normalcy to the campus.
