Rep. Chimaobi Atu (LP), member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, has flagged-off a one-kilometre access road to facilitate further development of Ugwuaji community in Enugu South Local Government Area.
Flagging off the Eke Market-Umumba-Afor Market Road in Ndiagu Ugwuaji community in Enugu on Tuesday, Atu said that the access road would make evacuation of farm produce to the two major markets in the community possible and fast.
He said that the road linking both major markets and having a spar-off would contribute greatly to the economic boost of the community and create wealth among farmers and traders in the two markets in the community.
According to him, this was part of the campaign promises he made to the people during the election and a way to appreciate the good people of Ugwuaji for their support to me.
“I thank the good people of Ugwuaji community for believing in me and giving me your mandate to represent you.
“It is all through the grace of God and I believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. I am assuring that more dividends of democracy is still coming even I have installed solar streetlights in most parts of the constituency.
“What I have in mind to do for the people in order to reposition and ensure quality representation and people-oriented leadership is much,” he said.
The Rep member appreciated the state government and entire security agencies for ensuring security of lives and property, adding: “I appeal to everyone to support government at all levels as they provide security meant to ensure that human and commercial activities strive.”
Atu, who did not disclosed the monetary value of the project, urged the people to own the project and assist the contractor handling the project to ensure timely and quality delivery according to laid down specifications for the project.
Speaking, Igwe Nwobodo Nyia, the Traditional Ruler of Obeagu Ugwuaji Autonomous Community, noted that Atu remained a trailblazer who is God’s sent to liberate Ugwuaji from lack of dividends of democracy.
“We are witnessing development that have eluded our people for some years; and Atu, today, has shown he is capable of providing leadership and direction to our people.
“I am urging other politicians and leaders to emulate Atu and be people-centred in all they do and ensure alleviation of hardship, among the people,” Nyia said.
Chief Chinwiuba Ngwu, Chairman of Labour Party in Enugu South LGA, said that the party was proud of Atu’s achievements within a short time in the House of Representatives, adding: “Atu has sponsored 14 bills and he remained outspoken at the house.”
He said that Atu before now had embarked on extensive provision of solar streetlights, scholarship to students and direct empowerment to indigents living within the constituency.
Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of Sir Azodo Engineering Services Ltd, Chief Onyeka Azodo, who is handling the project, assured that the company would abide by specifications and ensure timely completion and handover of the project.
A resident of Ugwuaji community, Mrs Peace Onuoha, thanked Atu and the Federal Government for the gesture, adding: “We already have solar streetlights; and with the new road our trading in Eke market will flourish the more.”
