The Abia State Government, has inaugurated a 27-member Petroleum Team of the Abia State Harmonised Taskforce (ASHTF), with a vow to end crude oil theft, and pipeline vandalism.
Gov. Alex Otti, while inaugurating the task-force, charged the members to go after those sabotaging the economy of government through oil bunkering.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, also charged them to be tough on pipeline vandals and dubious petroleum marketers indulging in unwholesome practices.
He charged the members of the task-force to discharge their duties without fear or favour.
The Governor told the task-force that it was also expected to generate some funds for the state through its activities.
He explained that about 12 military personnel, including the Navy, would be part of the team.
“Your work is a lot more technical in nature and we believe that you have a complex work to do in the state.
“The work you are about to embark on is for you to continue to contribute your quota for the advancement of our state,” he said.
In a remark on behalf of others members of the task-force, the Team Leader, Air Commodore Sunday Azubuike (retd), thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve.
He promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them, while soliciting the cooperation of the masses.
Mr Sam Oditah of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), is a member of the task-force.
