The nationwide protest billed to commence today, August 2 to 10, 2024, was a total flop in Abia State as residents went about their normal businesses.
Residents of Umuahia the state capital as well as Aba the commercial nerve centre of the state, moved on with their daily activities uninterrupted.
There were human and vehicular movements in both cities although shops are yet to open in some parts of Aba as some traders tend to be cautious.
The streets in both cities were as busy as ever.
So far, no protesters have been sighted anywhere in Umuahia.
When Ikengaonline moved around to monitor developments, the state capital was peaceful.
Some shops on the streets are, however, yet to open for business but there was free flow of traffic.
Igbo leaders and groups including Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had urged South-East youths and residents to shun the nationwide protest against bad governance.
They expressed fears it could be hijacked by hoodlums and Igbo businesses become the targets.
