…Gets approval to recruit house officers

Abia State Specialist & Diagnostic Hospital Umuahia, has inaugurated a dental clinic.
This is coming barely three months after the hospital revived its dialysis unit which had been moribund for over four years.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the new Chief Medical Director, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, said the feat was a significant milestone in the the hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services in the State.
“The establishment of this dental centre is a testament to our dedication to excellence in healthcare provision,” he said, adding, “we have invested in the latest technology and assembled a team of highly skilled professionals to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.”
Continuing, the former Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, said: “Our goal is to provide a wide range of dental services, from routine check-ups and cleanings to advanced surgical procedures, all under one roof.”
He said that the state -of-the-art facility would not only enhance the oral health of patients, but also contribute to their overall well-being.
“We believe that good oral health is a cornerstone of good general health and our dental centre is designed to address all aspects of dental care with precision and compassion.”
The CMD commended Gov. Alex Otti for his massive support to the hospital which, according to him, is responsible for the rapid transformation being witnessed in the hospital.
He disclosed that the hospital had started performing surgeries which stopped over four years ago, adding that there has also been upsurge of patients at the hospitals eye clinic that was recently established.
Dr Okwuonu hinted that the hospital had received approved to commence the process for the recruitment of House Officers, and Consultants in all sub-specialties.
He further hinted that approval had equally been secured for the commencement of Orthopedic and Trauma services at Amachara annex of the hospital.
The CMD added that Urology clinic of the hospital would be inaugurated in September, adding that efforts are on to make the hospital a referral medical facility in the state.
He restated his commitment with members of the management and staff, to justify the huge investments of the State Government in the hospital.
In a remark, a Consultant Oral Maxillofacial surgery, Dr Innocent Iwegbu of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, thanked Okwuonu for his vision and zest in establishing dental clinic in the hospital.
Emphasising the need for oral health, Dr Iwegbu said dental clinic should be established in every general hospital to be able to attend to the people effectively.
Harping on the importance of oral health, Dr Iwegbu said that diabetes and HIV could be detected early through routine oral check-ups even when the patient was unaware of them.
The Consultant Oral Maxillofacial said dental related ailments could kill but curable if detected early.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Ifeyinwa Uma-Kalu, described the dental clinic as a masterpiece, and urged parents to bring their children for dental care at least once in every six months.
