A 39-year-old man, Chukwugozirim Christian, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State for impersonating a Nigerian Navy personnel and committing fraud.
A statement from NSCDC said Christian was apprehended at Kwata Junction in Awka during a routine patrol on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has been pretending to be a naval officer, deceiving innocent civilians and participating in criminal activities.
A search of the suspect’s residence uncovered military gear and uniforms, confirming that he had no affiliation with the Nigerian Navy.
NSCDC said it is still conducting a thorough investigation to identify and capture Christian’s accomplices, who will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
Parading Christian at the State Command Headquarters in Awka, NSCDC Commandant, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, praised his operatives for their alertness.
He reassured the public of the Command’s dedication to protecting citizens from impostors and criminals, urging them to stay vigilant and provide information to help combat crime.
