The people of Mgbom-Na-Achara community in Ohaozara Local Government Area have hailed Gov. Francis Nwifuru over award of contract for the construction 12-kilometre Ogwumabiri-Ojigwe Road.
The 12-kilometre Ogwumabiri-Ojigwe Road is the first road project in the community after 25 years within the current civil rule.
The commendation is contained in a communique issued in Enugu by the Mgbom-Na-Achara Development Union (MADU), after its meeting on Saturday.
The communique was jointly signed by Chief Philip Eze, its President-General; Mr Udechukwu Obaji, Secretary-General and Ms Ngozichi Okorie, Publicity Secretary.
The communique noted the community’s “deep appreciation to His Excellency, Chief Francis Nwifuru, the Executive Governor Ebonyi State, for wiping the tears of Mgbom-Na-Achara Community by commencing the construction of the 12-kilometre Ogwumabiri-Ojigwe Road.”
According to the statement, the executive committee pledges to reciprocate the love shown to our people by Gov. Nwifuru.
“Henceforth, we vow to support all the programmes and policies of His Excellency’s administration as he navigates the affairs of Ebonyi State.
“The executive committee expects our people to be law-abiding, to ensure that the ongoing road construction work goes on smoothly without stoppage of work,” the communique said.
On the vacant Eze stool in the community, the statement said that the executive committee acknowledged the need to commence the process of filling the vacant stool by selecting the Eze from Mgbom Enu Kindred.
It said: “The stool of Namoke became vacant after the demise of His Royal Highness, late Eze Asu Udeogu, Namoke II of Mgbom-Na-Achara Autonomous Community.
“In the light of the above, the executive committee resolved to immediately issue a letter of notification to Mgbom Enu kindred directing the commencement of the process of selecting the Eze in line with the constitution of Mgbom-Na-Achara Autonomous Community.
“It also enjoined our people to commence the process of Ezeship selection in a peaceful and orderly manner.”
The statement said that the executive committee also deliberated on the ongoing mining activities at Ogbu-Enu Mgbom and expresses concern over the health and safety of the people living within the surrounding areas where these activities are carried out.
It said that the executive committee observed the need for the miners to comply with all extant Mining Laws including the requirement for a reclamation plan upon completion of their operations.
“The executive committee resolved to liaise with the landowners to ensure that every environmental, safety and health issue is resolved with the miners,” the communique added.
