No fewer than three passengers died while several others sustained varying degrees of injury following a fatal accident which occurred on Friday evening at Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area.
It was gathered that a heavy duty truck carrying a full load of laterite had a head-on collision with a mini bus at Orie Emene Junction, which resulted in the accident.
The fully loaded bus with seven passengers and the driver, was said to be coming from old Park and heading towards Emene when the incident happened.
An eyewitness told Ikengaonline that the bus driver had stopped to discharge his passengers when the truck collided with it.
“It was in the struggle by the passengers to escape unhurt that some of them leapt from the bus.
“Unfortunately, three of the passengers were mercilessly crushed beneath the weight of the truck, while two others sustained serious injuries and are currently battling for their lives at Annunciation Hospital in Emene,” he said.
The eyewitness also confirmed that the truck driver has been apprehended by the Police.
Neither the police nor FRSC is yet to make any official statement on the accident.
