Abia records 1 case of monkey pox, sets up treatment centre at ABSUTH

One case of monkey pox disease has been confirmed ii Abia State.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who disclosed this during a press briefings, Monday in Umuahia, said the confirmed case occured at Isiala Ngwa.
The Commissioner who said about 13 cases of the viral disease were recorded in the state, disclosed that nine tested negative while two were awaiting classification.
He, however, said that there was no record of death yet.
The Commissioner who said the Government was making spirited efforts to combat the viral disease, advised residents to maintain personal hygiene and keep social distancing.
He further announced that a treatment centre had already been set up by the State Government at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, Aba.
The Commissioner advised residents to promptly report any suspected case for swift action.
Contributing, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Agozi Azodo, said”regular personal hygiene is the best way to protect protect oneself” from contracting the viral disease.
She also advised residents especially farmers to minimize contact with animals.
Dr Azodo disclosed that the State Government had concluded arrangements to renovate and retrofit 200 primary health centres across the state in 100 days
The project according to her will commence in the first week of September and delivered before December.
Azodo explained that the move was part of the on-going transformation in the health sector of the state.
She restated the resolve of the Gov. Alex Otti-led Government to prioritize health sector in the state.
