Chekwas Okorie’s return to APGA, boost to party’s electoral chances – Youth leader

Chekwas Okorie’s return to APGA, boost to party’s electoral chances – Youth leader

    Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia

The National Youth Leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chuks Nwoga, has said that the return of one of the founding fathers of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, to its fold, would boost its electoral chances in 2027.

This is as Chief Benon Onuoha Egbe, has blamed APGA’s abysmal performance in the 2023 general elections on fielding of wrong candidates by the party.

The duo who spoke during a visit by the National Working Committee of the party to Abia State, predicted a bright future for APGA, particularly in the South East.

Nwoga said the visit was to present Egbe as the new Acting Chairman of APGA in Abia State following the recent Supreme Court judgment, and the subsequent recognition of Chief Edozie Njoku as APGA’s National Chairman, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The National Youth Leader who spoke on behalf of the delegation, said they were in Abia to unite the party ahead of 2027.

He said that the NWC of the party had been visiting various state chapters to reconcile aggrieved members and reposition the party for future elections.

The Youth Leader who said they had so far visited 18 states, expressed delight ove the positive responses from the reconciliatory visits.

He expressed optimism that APGA which is the ruling party in Anambra State, would claim more states in the South East in 2027.

He also expressed confidence that APGA would make great impacts in many states in the forthcoming Local Government polls.

” We will not only contest in council polls but contest and win in many states”, he said.

He described Abia as a fertile ground for APGA “because one of the founding fathers of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie is now the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the party, and he is from Abia”.

Responding, Chief Egbe NWC for the visit, and said that APGA in Abia “is united “.

He said that he and his Executive had been visiting the various aggrieved individuals, appealing to them to sheath their sword and join hands with the current NWC to move APGA forward.

Blaming bad leadership for the party’s poor performance in 2023, Chief Egbe expressed hope that APGA would do better in future elections.

He predicted that APGA would take over from the ruling Labour Party in Abia in 2027.

In a remark, Chief Emmanuel Egwu, who contested for Abia House of Assembly in 2023, said APGA “is now better organised and ready to face elections”
