Mbah advocates better remuneration for lawyers
Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has advocated a change of law curriculum as well as improved remunerations for lawyers to challenge the present realities in the legal profession.
Mbah made the assertion on Monday when he received a delegation of the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School at the government house, Enugu.
Our government house correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that the delegation was led by the chairman, Chief Emeka Ngige.
Commending the delegation for their efforts in shaping the students to be able to compete with their counterparts across the globe, the governor represented by his deputy, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai said the legal profession in Nigeria needed a change of the status quo to enable lawyers to advertise their jobs.
He frowned at what he described as the ethics of a profession where a lawyer in Nigeria is not allowed to showcase his jobs as a way of advertising himself for public consumption.
Dr. Mbah opined that improved remunerations for lawyers would help curtail the level of corruption in the profession, stating that the state government is committed to changing the story of the Dr. Augustin Nnamani Law School, Agbani by elevating it to the international standards.
Earlier, the chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, Chief Emeka Ngige who said the aim of the visit was to thank the governor for his readiness to build an Ultra-morden law auditorium at the Dr. Augustine Nnamani campus, Agbani, described the gesture as a welcome development.
