Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has named the Obinagu Road newly constructed by his administration after the folktale music icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.
Mbah had described the highlife music maestro, Ejeagha, as a great legend.
The governor made the pronouncement when he commissioned four completed road projects including Mike Ejeagha Crescent formerly known as Mike Ejeagha Street.
He said that the state government deemed it wise to celebrate the nonagenarian while he is still alive.
Aside Obinagu road and Mike Ejeagha Crescent, other roads were Texaco/Ifo road and Mkpo street.
Mbah said the event was in fulfilment of his administration’s social contract entered into with the people of the state.
He said that Abakpa people would also benefit from the next phase of road construction of 141 Urban and 20 rural roads, as contract has been awarded for the dualisation of Abakpa-Opi Nsukka road.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to embarking on several human orientated projects that would attract tourists and investors to the state and make Enugu the best choice for living.
Speaking, the commissioner for works and infrastructure, Engr Gerald Otiji, who described the project as another milestone achievement of Mbah’s administration, said it was a testament to the governor’s love for the people of the state.
Also, the Special Adviser to the governor on project development and implementation, Arc. Uchenna Nwatu, said the project speaks volume about the transformative leadership of the governor, noting that the roads are designed to last for over 15 years.
The governor later paid homage to the music icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha in his Enugu residence where he demonstrated the state government’s gratitude for the gift of people of his kind to the state.
It is worthy of note that the four commissioned roads were not captured in the 71 urban and 10 rural roads recently completed by governor Mbah’s administration, but they were regarded as very significant to the people of the area.
