Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have raided and taken over the control of the Abuja office of a vocal rights group, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP.
The raid came less than six hours the Secret Police, quizzed the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, en route London.
SERAP, in a statement on its X handle, described the action as an “unlawful occupation,” which must not be tolerated.
“President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians,” SERAP urged.
Ikengaonline recalls that SERAP had, on Sunday, urged Tinubu to leverage his leadership and authority to instruct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to promptly reverse the seemingly illegal and unconstitutional hike in the pump price of premium motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, at its retail outlets.
Meanwhile, NLC leaders are meeting behind closed doors to decide on the next line of action over Ajaero’s arrest.
