Candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State have been declared winners of all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the September 28 council poll in the state.
The Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Genevieve Osakwe, announced the results at the ANSIEC office in Awka late Sunday.
Osakwe stated that APGA secured all 21 chairmanship seats, and also won the councilorship positions in each local government area, as confirmed at the ward level.
Describing the election as the fairest, Osakwe emphasised that the commission meticulously collated and analysed the results to ensure accuracy.
During the announcement, she detailed the total scores of the APGA candidates, declaring them winners based on the highest votes cast.
Osakwe praised citizens of Anambra State for their strong turnout and expressed gratitude to security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the process.
She stated, “This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councilorship election held on September 28, 2024. The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.”
“We ensured all scores and parties were announced at the polling units yesterday. We are here today to affirm the results as recorded. The election held at all polling units across Anambra State on September 28 was free, fair, and credible.”
It was gathered that aside from APGA officials and party agents, no representatives from other political parties including All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were present at the ANSIEC office when results were declared around 8:20 PM on Sunday.
Members of the the two parties have described the election as a sham. They had also declared their stance of non-participation in the election having accused ANSIEC of orchestrating a fraudulent election process.
