Explosion occured Saturday morning at the Rivers State premises of All Progressives Congress, APC, secretariat in Port Harcourt
The explosion suspected to have been caused by dynamite, left the building and various items of property shattered and in ruins.
Nobody or group has claimed responsibility for the attack which coincided with the Local Government election in the state scheduled for today (Saturday, October 5).
Ikengaonline checks revealed that this is the second time the Chief Tony Okocha-led APC would be experiencing such an attack at its secretariat this year.
Despite various obstacles, Gov. Siminalayi Fubara has vowed to push ahead with the council poll.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,had refused to release voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, for the exercise, but Gov. Fubara who is engrossed in a protracted political feud with his enstranged godfather and predecessor Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to bulge.
Police had on Thursday stormed the headquarters of the Rivers electoral umpire allegedly to take over the premises but Gov. Fubara, in protest personally arrived the premises with his supporters and dislodged them.
He dared the Inspector General of Police, telling him to steer clear and allow Rivers conduct its election, adding that the poll will still hold without the services of the Nigeria Police which he accused of bias.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, while reacting to the explosion, said she had yet to get a report on the development.
