The Governor Peter Mbah-led administration in Enugu state has demolished a suspected kidnappers den in Awgu Local Government Area.
This was part of the government’s efforts at ridding the state of criminalities.
The demolished duplex at Amabo, Owelle-Court in Awgu Local Government Area was confirmed to be a den for kidnappers and other criminals activities.
Speaking after the demolition exercise, the chairman, Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, Mr Uche Anya, said governor Peter Mbah had zero tolerance for banditry and insecurity.
Mr Anya said that prime suspect has been arrested and would be prosecuted accordingly.
He said that the incident occurred on May 25, 2024, when a young man was abducted in Enugu town and brought to the place, an action that triggered concerns from every quarter of the community and led to the state government’s intervention.
He warned anyone who has a building in Enugu but lives overseas to hand over the property to a trusted caretaker.
“The government would not spare any property identified to be used for kidnapping or any other criminal activities whether the owner lives in Enugu or outside,” he said.
